How to Play
The idea
A category is chosen and one secret word is picked. Everyone gets the word — except the imposter, who instead gets a single related hint word (or nothing at all). Can the group sniff out the faker before the faker guesses the word?
Setup
- Best with 4–10 players (works from 3). Add a second imposter for 7+.
- Pass the phone around — each player privately taps to see their word, then passes it on.
- One player secretly gets the imposter card instead of the word.
Give clues
- Sit in a circle. Going around, each player says exactly one word related to the secret word.
- No sentences, no spelling it out. Make it clear enough to prove you know it — but not so obvious the imposter catches on.
- The imposter must invent a clue that fits in, while guessing what the word could be — their hint word is a handy thing to lean on.
Discuss & vote
- After a round (or two) of clues, debate who sounded unsure or vague.
- Everyone votes. The player with the most votes is accused.
Who wins
- The group wins if they vote out the imposter.
- The imposter wins by surviving the vote — or by correctly guessing the secret word.
Tips
- Ban filler clues like “thing”, “stuff” or “vibes”.
- Don’t make your clue too obvious — you’ll hand it to the imposter.
- Pick a mix of categories to keep everyone guessing.
